FROM TATAVLA TO KURTULUȘ

During the reign of Süleyman the Magnificent, the area became the settlement of the immigrants brought from the island of Chios and the district was named “Tatavla”. The name Tatavla was derived from “barn” in Greek. The reason was the presence of the ranges and barns of the palace in Tatavla. After the great fire that broke out in 1929, it started to be called Kurtuluş; which means “Salvation”. From this date until the mid-20th century, the most populous and richest Greek people lived here.

Today, once again Kurtuluş regained its diverse population as in history.
